About Harties Boat Company

Join the Harties Boat Company for a 2-hour Sunday Lunch Cruise. Guests are treated to a gentle cruise on Hartbeespoort Dam, discovering hidden estates, coves and houses along the way. The Italian styled buffet offers a selection of fresh salads, breads and traditional beef, lamb, chicken and fish dishes with roast potatoes and seasonal vegetables. Trays of decadent desserts, tea and coffee follow this.

The cruise takes guests along the Kosmos foreshore to the dam wall, past the zoo and yacht club. From there, the boat heads across open water to Oberon and Eagles Landing to view some of the stunning waterfront homes, then onto Pecanwood and the dykes of The Islands Estate. The trip ends beyond Kshane Estate and Sandy Lane Golf Course. Adventurous folk have the option of an exhilarating jet boat ride. Book early to avoid disappointment. A limited bar service is available. Cruise times may change according to season.

The boat is all dirty metal, there were cobwebs everywhere, the food was not good, the port-a-potty urinal won't flush. The dessert was decent. I'm being very generous with that star. They don't have any competition on the dam, it seems. That doesn't make it good.

The Sunday Lunch Cruise (with a R100 surcharge due to Valentine's Day being the day before) was an extremely disappointing experience.Firstly, the food was an overcooked mess of vegetables with a sloppy melanzane (for vegetarians) and inedible meat (according to my partner, who isn't vegetarian). This was preceded by a starter platter which seemed more of an afterthought. The dessert, while serviceable (tiramisu and an Italian Kiss) by comparison to what else was on offer was rationed to the tiniest portion imaginable and therefore could not appease my growling stomach.Secondly, the faciliti...
