Hlane Royal National Park

Description

Held in trust for the Nation by His Majesty King Mswati III. In the vast bushveld expanse of eastern Swaziland where the hot, still sun of Africa beats on the dry but life-giving soils as it has for thousands of years, and the rumbling roars of the lions are heard in the cool dusky evenings, lies Swaziland’s largest protected area, Hlane Royal National Park, home to the largest herds of game in the Kingdom At Ndlovu Camp, there is an open-air restaurant and a game-viewing deck where one can sit back and enjoy the view of the waterhole – a perfect place for sundowners, tasty meals and relaxation. Try your hand at tracking the spoor of water buck or even elephant or rhino... probably the most exiting activity at Hlane is the guided walking safari with a Swazi field guide, and an inquisitive ostrich or two often accompany you! These are conducted from Ndlovu camp and often bring the walker into close contact with elephant and white rhino as well as a variety of other game. Hlane, named by King Sobriquet II, with its adjacent dispersal areas covers 30 000 hectares of Swazi bushveld, dominated by ancient hardwood vegetation. Hlane is home to lion, elephant and white rhino, with an abundant and diverse bird life, including the highest density of nesting white backed vultures in Africa. A network of self-drive game-viewing roads criss-cross the park’s flat terrain, weaving between the 1000 year old hardwood vegetation and shallow pans which attract great herds of animals during the dry winter months. Guided walking safaris, mountain biking and game drives in Hlane's open Land Rover's are also available.Head for the bush and experience the sights and sounds of Hlane against the roar of Hlane’s magnificent lions – the symbol of royalty and the pride of Swaziland.

Wisteria Camp (Ndlovu Main Camp)X 14
Includes: Self-catering
Ndlovu Camp is found immediately inside the main gate off the main tarred Simunye road through Hlane. The camp overlooks a waterhole, which, especially in winter, attracts a wide diversity of game including white rhino, elephant and giraffe. The camp is protected from big game by a three-strand electric cordon, which although not stopping smaller game movement, does keep the larger animals at bay. The camp is open has no electricity and is reminiscent of the old Kruger National Park rest camps, with abundant bird life and a relaxed communal atmosphere. Ndlovu Camp has thatched family rondavels, and smaller cottages all equipped for self-catering but with the option of a large open air restaurant providing delectable bushevled cuisine for groups and individuals.

Rustic atmosphere, very close to game that visit the dam, rest of reserve however overgrown - not for self drives.
Thanks!

We stayed in a chalet which was clean, well equipped and well serviced - I think, someone lighting oil lamps when it gets dark! Watching the hippos in the waterhole next to the camp is the perfect way to spice up your sundowner. A really recommendable place! Great for a stopover on the way to Mozambique.
Thank you

Hlane Royal National Park was excellent!
An animal sanctuary of note
RICK FELL, South Africa
18 February 2012
The animals were fantastic. At the water hole there were elephant, rhino and hippo in abundance. Friendly service was received at the gate and while booking in. The maps were a bit dodgy and no literature was available. The rondavel was a long way from the parking area, so luggage transfer was onerous on older folk.
