Description
Phophonyane Falls Lodge, Swaziland's own unique hideaway is quietly tucked away in its own 500 ha nature reserve in a place of legendary romance and breathtaking natural surroundings. The Phophonyane River runs through the reserve in a series of waterfalls and cascades with the sound of running water providing an ever present sense of calm at the lodge.
A network of walkways lead one from the accommodation through water gardens which merge with the rivers edge onto a spectacular display of one of the world's oldest rock formations (3.6 billion years). The walking trails network within the reserve takes you through the riverine forest interspersed with viewpoints some of which command a view of the majestic Makhonjwa and Gobolondlo Mountain ranges and the Ntfonjeni valley.
The Phophonyane Nature Reserve is home to small mammals such as red duiker, Cape clawless otter, bush buck and a remarkable 230 bird species including the elusive Narina Trogon, purple crested lourie and the wood owl.
Guests at Phophonyane are guaranteed a high level of privacy and personal service. The 26 bed lodge offers accommodation in safari tents, family cottages, luxury beehives and a honeymoon suite, with some self-catering units. Each unit is individually woven into the lush fabric of tall sub-tropical forest. All meals can be enjoyed at the lodge’s renowned and stylishly furnished restaurant, where healthy home-cooked meals and fine wines are a feature. On cool winter nights, a roaring log fire lulls the senses and warms the heart.
Secluded viewing decks, refreshing natural rock pools, and a stunning hilltop swimming pool with views to the distant horizon are further enticing characteristics. Other facilities include a small library, internet room and TV room with DSTV. Phophonyane has one of the most attractive and best stocked crafts shops in Swaziland.
Our guests always comment on the quality and warmth of our team of friendly Swazi staff.
