About Eagle's Rest

For those who love to be up close & personal with nature, this is your ideal getaway...
Situated in a Conservation Area & Green Belt, Eagle’s Rest cottage is humble, homely & unpretentious, overlooking the Gonubie River valley, with magnificent river valley views. This stand-alone 2-bedroomed self-catering thatched cottage is in a peaceful, tranquil, safe, treed setting, only a short stroll from the Gonubie River and a short drive to Gonubie’s beautiful beach.

Surrounded by indigenous trees and bush, the area has a wide variety of naturally occurring creatures & the most wonderful bird life... you can be assured of being woken by birdsong every morning – be it the fish eagles, Egyptian geese, crowned and trumpeter hornbills, kingfishers, shrikes or Knysna Loeries to name a few. Nature is everywhere in this environment... amongst them are the mischievious geckos that share the cottage with you.

The fully equipped cottage has two bedrooms. Each bedroom two single beds and an en-suite bathroom, one with a shower and the other with a bath. The rooms accommodate four guests, and there is a single bed sleeper couch in the lounge that can be utilised if necessary for one additional guest. The cottage has an open-plan kitchenette and lounge with a wooden deck where you can sip sun downers, relax and enjoy the spectacular views. There is a portable braai & safe parking on the property.

* *The cottage has steps leading up to its entrance, so is unfortunately not suitable for elderly or infirm guests, or those confined to wheelchairs.

      The place is ideally situated for holiday makers .No sound of cars . The only sound was that of birds which soothes the entire body physically and emotionally. I do recommend for other guests for holiday or business .There are some unknown little creatures which also share the cottage with the visitors . They pee and leave some faeces in one bed room all over the place i.e on the floor and on the be. This is the only evidence that one could conclude about the existence of these creatures. There is dirt on the floor and this is not easily picked up unless one walks without shoes on the...

      These are the things my parents needed and received and so they had a wonderful 5 day break with their 9 yr old grandchild at Eagles Rest. The cottage is spacious, cool and has a stunning vista looking down over the tree tops towards the river. It was beautifully clean and had everything they needed including a lovely old cat. Thank you Sherrol. They will definitely be back.

      When we arrived, the host did not even know we coming! She told us to go find a coffee shop and wait there so she can prepare the place - this after flying from Cape Town to PE and then driving to Gonubie....all in one day with a 3 year old toddler. When we eventually was given access it was way past 7pm. My wife immediately bathed our grandson, while I unloaded. By this tme we saw the true state of this place - it was filthy - it actually is not fit for human habitation. There was rat poop lying all over the floors and on all the window sils.
