About Reading House

Reading House is a historical sight offering class and sophistication. Built in 1886 by Sir Herbert Baker, this unique heritage guest house is situated in a quiet street in the beautiful central suburb of Newlands, Cape Town. The guest house is perfect for those seeking a quiet and romantic retreat.

The guest house features four luxurious rooms with their own taste and charm. Guests staying at the Reading Room can relax in the lounge with its 1840s fireplace, high ceilings, bay windows and comfortable seating.

Enjoy a book in the reading room with its original teak-frame doors, stained glass windows, and a fireplace providing a quiet environment to sit down and enjoy the classics. The dining room is fitted with yellowwood tables and stinkwood chairs are provided. This is where the five-course breakfast is served.

Reading House is within a five minutes’ walk from the Newlands Cricket and Rugby Stadiums, shopping centers and offers quick access to the main roads.
