About Victoria Memorial Hall
One of Kolkata’s iconic structures, the Victoria Memorial was built in 1906 from white Makrana to venerate Queen Victoria. Set on the banks of the Hooghly River, the design echoes the Taj Mahal and combines British, European and Mughal Indian architectural styles. Cresting the central dome is the Angel of Victory figurine, which in turn is surrounded by a series of allegorical sculptures.
