Pilgrims Rest

The beautiful, peaceful Pilgrim's Rest is situated in the Mpumalanga province in South Africa. The area has a rich diversity of natural, cultural and historic value. Here the visitor is invited to experience looking into the exciting gold rush era of days gone by.

Pilgrim's Rest was declared a National Monument in 1986. It is now a living testament of the exciting early gold rush days in South Africa during the late 1800's and early 1900's.

Since then a dedicated team are assigned to closely monitor all developments and refurbishments in the village to maintain its historic appearance. Gold is still mined in the area to this day.

Come along and either take part in, or join in watching the excitement of the Goldpanning Championships held annually in October.
