About Hartfell Farm

Hartfell Lodge is set amongst the rolling hills, forests, and grasslands near Dullstroom. The farm offers lovely walks and views, and boasts three well-stocked trout dams for fly-fishing. The farm is split in half by the Kruisfontein Road. The top section is mainly grassland and the lower developed section is mainly forest, creating a unique ambience that is different to most other venues in the area. We cater for both the family getaway with peace and privacy, as well as for the keen fisherman. There are various walks on the farm, notably the waterfall walk, either to the base or to the top of the 30 m waterfall, a river walk close to indigenous forest, and longer perimeter walks around the area. These all offer something to bird enthusiasts, especially in the summer. Parts of the Kruisfontein Road are also used for mountain bike races, and joggers and mountain bikers alike enjoy the low traffic along the scenic route. The area also offers a wide variety of fauna and flora as a discussion with Piet, a nature enthusiast, will show. Fauna and flora include a number of nocturnal animals, interesting birds, and several red data plant species. Located a mere 11 km from Dullstroom, ensures that guests may enjoy the tranquility and complete privacy on the farm and yet be close enough to Dullstroom with its great pubs and shops. Three charming, fully furnished self-catering cottages are available, each with their own character to suit different tastes. Each cottage is completely separate and set in stands of very old oak and blackwood trees, therefore they are very private. All cottages are serviced and firewood is also provided for guests' convenience.

We had a truly amazing stay at Hartfell cottage.Only "negative":I drive a Peugeot 3008 SUV and had to take it slow on the road definitely not for low carriage vehicles.Other than that, the stay was most enjoyable.Hartfell offers a rustic atmosphere, tranquility and peaceful essence.Hiking was pleasant and the short hike to the waterfall is easily accessible. My dogs also enjoyed the stay and exploring in nature which is a is plus for me as they ALWAYS travel with me.Was fortunate to meet Piet & Sue-Ann Viljoen, the owners of Hartfell farm, great hosts. Will most definitely return to visit!

The farm surroundings are beautiful and very peaceful. The walk to the dams and waterfall are well worth it. There are a few things in the house that need attention. The oven doesn't work, the dishwasher was out of order, the sleeper couch needs replacing (our children couldn't sleep on it), the sliding door in the bathroom keeps coming out of the rails, the one bedroom's curtains are hanging loose (no hooks in the curtains) and the bedding in the one bedroom needs replacing. Overall a peaceful and relaxing stay.

The cottage was superb. It was peaceful there, no other people which for covid was ideal. Isolated , 3 dams to fish in. beautiful walks. only drawback was the road. I have a 4x4, but still thought that my car was going to break down. Fortunately we did not bring the trailer (as our next stop was Kruger) because that def would not have survived.

The road we needed to use to reach the venue was quite badly washed away due to recent rain, but the cottage was spacious and well maintained. We enjoyed our short stay!
